Its story

This star’s easily recognizable presence is largely defined by its spectral type, which places it within the red dwarf category. Unlike many other stars, Salm emits predominantly red light, giving it a noticeable reddish tinge in the night sky. Recent data, collected using the Gaia satellite, indicates a surprisingly stable proper motion, meaning its apparent motion remains relatively constant over time - essentially a slow, gentle rotation. These values give rise to the designation 62Tau Peg. It offers a distinct aesthetic within the Peg constellation, drawing comparisons to other red dwarf stars with unique optical characteristics.

The significance of Salm is arguably linked to an enduring belief system within some cultures. Historically, it's been theorized, within some of the very early traditions of navigation and astrology, that Salm played a particular role within celestial navigation. This idea, embedded across various ancient and medieval texts, suggested a connection to the mystical patterns of the cosmos—potentially linked to the cyclical nature of star positions and the observable alignment of celestial bodies.
